Beautiful Cottage Winery & Vineyard Wedding – Menomonie, Wis.

IMG_0009

IMG_0711Cottage Winery & Vineyard is hands down, one of my favorite places to have a wedding to photograph. With it’s rolling country hills, gorgeous vineyards, and gorgeous sunset views, you feel as though you are on a European vacation. It truly never feels like I’m working when I am here, and it is such a soul replenishing environment. When I met with Tania & Michael, I knew their wedding would be beautiful and I was so excited to be a part of their day. The day itself did not disappoint, warm but not hot and without a single sign of rain. Michael & Tania incorporated Tania’s heritage with a mariachi band playing during the ceremony and reception, and beautiful catholic rituals. I’d never experienced a mariachi band before, but now I think every wedding should have one. There wasn’t a single pair of feet that didn’t hit the dance floor that night, and it kept moving all night long. As the sun set over the rolling fields and vineyard, you couldn’t help but feel that a little slice of Heaven was given to us all on this day.

Cottage Winery & Vineyard Engagement Portraits – Menomonie, Wis.

IMG_6732

IMG_6625Back at Cottage Winery & Vineyard again, this time to document the engagement of one of my dearest friends Carly, and her fiance, Taylor. We went on a gorgeous, cool fall day when the leaves were at their peak and the vineyard was decorated in all of it’s fall glory. After Carly & Taylor’s session, I went for a country drive through Menomonie and Boyd and firmly believe it’s one of the last forgotten places of the world. These two were married here this past July in a beautiful and unique ceremony I will never forget, as I stood by their sides as a bridesmaid. We’ve all joked that we want to do it all over again, but I think we all truly mean it. This engagement session with these two was a two part session. I convinced Carly & Taylor to let me tag along as they got a tattoo together in Minneapolis at 7th Street Tattoo by their good friend Jesse, also a member of the bridal party. That session will be shared soon, I promise. The theme of the wedding was skulls, so C & T tattooed skulls on their ring fingers, very bad ass. Thanks so much for checking out this session!

Wild Ridge Golf Course Preppy Rustic Wedding – Eau Claire, Wis.

greenweddingbouquet

You guys. This wedding. I would do it over a million times. I mean, I say that a lot but really. I mean it when I say it. Weddings are long days, but at this wedding, when I left the only reason I  even considered leaving was because I was starving and Carly (my assistant/friend) and I needed some french fries. For some reason, I get super thirsty before shoots and really hungry for french fries after. Strangest thing.

Anyway, Megan & Bill captured my heart at their engagement session which involved cocoa and s’mores, and a gigantic fire lit by a torch on Bill’s parents property. I adore these laid back sessions full of personal and unique details, so leaving the day of their e-session made me even more excited for their wedding day.

Megan & Bill also happen to be close friends with previous bride & groom, Clare & Steve, so it was a bit of a reunion of sorts. Megan & Bill went to school together, which is how they met and began dating, and of course fell in love. I’m not sure that “high school sweethearts” really happens in real life all that often anymore, but it makes my heart so happy to know that it does still happen.

A Romantic & Heartfelt Wedding at The Enchanted Barn – Hillsdale, Wis.

bride & groom kiss in the barn

On Friday, July 19th, I joined Jessica & Adam at the Enchanted Barn in Hillsdale, WI while they and their friends and family joined them in celebrating their love. The Enchanted Barn is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places to get married. It is resplendent with beauty, complete with rolling hills, horses, a beautiful garden path, and adorable signs directing your way wherever you go on the property. For the wanderlusts in us, there is even a hidden swing, high atop a hill overlooking the entire property that is absolutely glorious at night. With the twinkling stars, the glow of light coming from the barn, and the echo of excited voices reaching your ears at that swing, you cannot help but believe in magic. When the owners of The Enchanted Barn chose their name, they chose wisely. Many times, when you hear how beautiful a place is, you over prepare yourself and sometimes find yourself disappointed. I can promise that the beauty of this property is almost unrivaled.

The barn was the perfect place for two people, so head over heels in love, as Jessica and Adam are to get married. When you see them together, you can tell there is a mutual love and  respect that comes from a pure understanding of who the other person is. They love one another because of their flaws and they celebrate one another as a true couple in love should.

The Enchanted Barn, Hillsdale, WI

Many of the details of their wedding day, were unique to them and defines who they are. From custom made decorations, to Jessica’s ring that boasts not a diamond, but smokey rose quartz, to the ice cream served by local Eau Claire, WI vendor 9 Degrees at their wedding rather than cake. The highlight of the entire celebration was definitely the reciting of personal vows Jessica & Adam wrote one another. During Adam’s vows, there was not a dry eye in the house (or um, rather…barn), including his own. His dedication not only to Jess, but also to their girls was absolutely beautiful and heartfelt. Jess’s sister Marla, was also the person who married Jessica & Adam, and she did an amazing job. Jess & Adam’s mutual friends are part of a band called The Clintons, and rather than a djay, they provided the musical entertainment for the night. After dinner, the sky was lit up with the golden glow and warmth of a fire, as the guests played yard games and enjoyed one another. A down to earth, casual celebration that reflected the personalities of both the bride & groom.

I hope you enjoy the photos I have prepared for you, my heart & soul went into them. I think it shows. Leave some love below if you liked the images, I love hearing from you!

Fair Engagement Photos at Cinder City Days – Altoona, Wis.

Stuffed animals at a carnival fair

This past summer I had the honor of photographing Julianne & Kyle’s engagement photos. Luckily for me, I work with Julianne’s cousin at my second career as a stylist (which I am equally as passionate about) and I was able to arrange it so that J+K agreed to my vision and J even went and purchased a dress from Modcloth (one of my all time fave resources for photo garb) specifically for this session. I’d been wanting to do a carnival engagement session for quite some time, but just needed to find the couple who were fun enough to do it. Julianne & Kyle fit the bill perfectly, and considering we spent the whole time eating delicious fair food, playing on rides and laughing like loons when I had the bright idea to go on the Music Express to “get some photos.” Word to the wise…it isn’t the ride to capture photos. When my chiropractor asks about the “rogue trauma to my neck,” this ride very well may be the culprit. Seriously. No bueno. If your chiropractor is free…well then, by all means.

Haha.

Anyway…when I saw Julianne she took my breath away. Gorgeous with a capital G and she pulls off the 50’s vintage look perfectly. The fact that Kyle is totally smitten with her just seals the deal. Add to the fact that I am not afraid to approach random strangers with out there requests (hey, can I borrow your car?? like, right now?) And this shoot was one of my favorites this past summer. Yes, I approached a random stranger and asked if we could use his car right there on the spot. To my surprise, he said yes…buffed and shined it for us a bit and then drove it a mile away to my specified location so that a couple he did not know and had never met before, could cozy up in his back seat and snuggle for a while. Real life.

If I was afraid of people, this would not be the career for me. 🙂 Thanks for being here, thanks for reading. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Deanna & Jordan Engagement Photos with Flannel & Flowers

Eau Claire, WI engagement photographer

I documented Deanna & Jordan’s love this year and it was silly & goofy fun in the middle of a wide open field. My favorite people to photograph are people who can laugh at themselves, who have a sense of humor and silliness about them that makes it easy to joke and poke fun. Deanna & Jordan are definitely this type of couple. Add to the equation, the most adorable German Shepherd puppy you have ever seen and it is a match made in Heaven. One look at Harley and you’ll understand why. Those ears of his just big to be kissed and the little face adored and stared at all day long.

I hope you enjoy the images I captured of this little family as much as I enjoyed taking them. Congratulations Deanna & Jordan, best of wishes to you both in married life and beyond.

Lakeside Wedding – Lake Holcombe, Wis.

Bride & Groom Kissing in a tent

This past weekend, I made the trek up to Lake Holcombe, WI from Eau Claire to photograph Michael & Estefania’s wedding day. Michael & Estefania traveled all the way from Texas to celebrate with their family and friends, many of them coming from all over the country: Seattle, Alaska, Nevada, and some even coming from Mexico in order to celebrate their day with them. I personally didn’t get the opportunity to meet with M&S until the week of their wedding, but when I did I could tell that they were the sweetest people ever. The respect that they have toward one another was phenomenal. You can tell that they hold the other person in very high regard, and that respect will come in handy in a marriage.

Congratulations to Michael & Estefania on their union, and best of luck to them both in their marriage. They have a beautiful family surrounding them, that I have no doubt will support and love them, and help them through any trials they may face together. I hope you enjoy the photos I captured of the day, as much as I enjoyed taking them. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Lenk, for including me in your wedding day.

Black & White Sand Creek, Wisconsin Wedding and The Pines Ballroom Reception

Heather & Travis were married in Sand Creek, WI last October, with their wedding reception in Bloomer, WI at The Pines Ballroom. I was fortunate to be a part of their day as a Secondary Photographer for Dewitz Photography. Travis & I work together on nearly every wedding we shoot with one of us being the other person’s back up. This means double the equipment in case something were to go wrong, as well as a man to stay with the guys and me to stay with the girls capturing the intimate “getting ready” portion of the wedding day. We also have very starkly different styles, and while the Primary photographer does all of the editing for the couple, a lot of the times our differences in style show up in the final images. This also guarantees that less of the important and intimate moments will be missed because there is a photographer with you nearly every moment of the day.

Heather & Travis’s wedding was filled with so much love and excitement from the beginning. It was the first time I have ever seen a brother come to help his sister get ready for her big day and I was choking back emotion as I watched the two together. The family bond was so evident the entire day, and I think you’ll notice it in the photos. I chose to do this entire blog in black & white because I’ve been wanting to do it for a while, and since this was not technically my wedding, I can do what I want. 🙂 Please enjoy! 🙂

The Enchanted Barn Bridal Portraits – Wedding Venue , Hillsdale, Wis.

Wisconsin Barn Wedding

Near Chetek, WI, there is a haven of romantic beauty just ripe for the picking. It’s called the Enchanted Barn and it’s fast becoming one of the go-to destination for all romantic brides who want a rustic vibe to their weddings. The Enchanted Barn gives you just that, when you walk into the barn it’s like coming into an entirely different world, the romance and beauty that this single place exudes is one you cannot deny. I was so lucky to shoot a bridal shoot here this past weekend with a gorgeous bride and an equally gorgeous dress. Holly’s entire look could not have been more perfect for this location. About a 45 minute drive from Eau Claire, The Enchanted Barn can be a little difficult to find, but through some research I have found that you can be shuttled into the location from Menomonie, a nearby city. The Enchanted Barn also happens to be very near the cities as well, a center point for all of the larger surrounding cities.

Chetek, WI Wedding Photographer

The lower portion of the barn serves as a ceremony site, area where the bride can prepare for her big day, the bar, and additional seating later in the day. Complete with white twinkle lights and a baby’s breath ball in the ceiling, it is the hub of romance for any wedding. The backside of the wall even opens up to create a glorious amount of light for any photographer. Upstairs, is the reception area, featuring a table for the bride & groom, an area for your djay, and hundreds of little votive candles floating in the ceiling just waiting to be lit to add beauty and ambiance. The barn opens up to a beautiful country setting, and a ramp for any guests who need easy access. The barn is complete with horses roaming the back of the property, a private swing overlooking the entire barn and party, all while creating a setting the bride & groom can easily sneak away for a private moment. This barn, really & truly, is a dream come true for any bride. With it’s own beauty and ambiance there isn’t much to be done in the way of decorating, making The Enchanted Barn the perfect place for the budget bride.

I truly enjoyed every moment of our session with Holly there. Holly is bubbly, happy, full of excitement and laughter, and I am so excited to share with you all. I could have shared the entire session, as it was I had a very difficult time narrowing it down to the 16 I have to share with you. Even then, I’m wondering if I truly picked the very best. I hope you enjoy! Thanks for following my work.

Budget Wedding Planning: The Dress

Jenny Packham, flowy chiffon, romantic wedding dress

I am so excited about this week’s installment of Budget Wedding Planning here on VPD! I mean, I’m a girl…I love dresses, and of course I have been dreaming of my wedding day just like all of you every since I can remember and of course part of that is the dress. Looking at all of these beautiful dresses for this post is making me anxious. There are so many perfect wedding dresses out there that I can just see myself in so easily! Hopefully you can see yourself in some of these! I scoured the web, and came up with several different dresses, none of them over $1000 and many of them less than $600. That’s what I call a steal of the century!

Besides scouring the web for a dress, consider the non-traditional dress for your wedding. Borrow one, rent one, or wear your mothers. Shop the discounted racks at the bridal stores, you never know what you will find in there! Check Bridal boards, Craigslist, newspapers, and even sometimes you can find something amazing at Second hand shops & Consignment stores like Savers and Goodwill. Be creative! You never know where you’ll find the dress of your dreams!

This first dress, I found while browsing Nordstrom’s website. The dress is by Adrianna Papell, I’ve owned a few dresses by this brand and loved them all. They’re always very well made, flattering, gorgeous, and girly detailing. This one is no exception. With fabulous rosettes throughout the gown and sweet beading under the bust, I don’t even care that there is no train on this dress. Add to the fact that it’s $299 with an additional 10% off at Macy’s right now and you’re golden. This is where I should probably mention that the dress on Nordstrom only has sizes 6, 10, and 14 left while Macy’s has pretty much all sizes still available. If you can make Nordstrom’s available sizes work it is $278, but I am sure if you  provide the style number on Nordstrom’s website, Macy’s will price match for you.

rosette wedding dress with waist bead detail

(Source: Nordstrom, Macy’s)

The Nordstrom picture gives this dress so much justice and all the reviews state that it is a lot prettier than pictured. My suggestion if you want a train and are a petite girl or have some room to hem when you try it on? Find a talented tailor who can bring up just the front and blend the two so you have a small chapel-style train. It can be done!  Either way, this dress is gorgeous and would be perfect for a casual spring or summer wedding, or destination wedding. It’s by far my favorite dress of the bunch, but I want to know what your favorites are!

This next one is nice and simple, for a bride who doesn’t want much fuss and is conservative or classic. The lines on it are simply stunning and the satin construction makes me drool. This Eliza J dress also doesn’t have a train but I think the previous suggestion would work for it as well. It comes in at the insanely inexpensive budget bridal price of $122.85! AND it has an additional 10% off right now through Macy’s.  Sizes 4-14 are currently available in this pristine white beauty.

(Source: Macy’s)

Gorgeous, right? The back also has feminine button detailing, and I just love the detail on the sleeves along with the cowl. Gorgeous dress.

I love J. Crew! J. Crew is one of the sources that get a lot of my money. Especially when they have 30%  off sale Sales. I love their rich colors, and soft materials. I own so many of their plain cotton tees, probably in every single color known to man. Again, one of those brands that you just know the clothing is quality and it’s going to last you. Quality is important to me. I’m not big into the buy a $5 shirt and cheap store wear it once and it’s no big deal when it comes out of the washer 2 sizes to small and with a nice hole that wasn’t there before. Nope, I want to have my clothes around a little longer than that, so places like J. Crew are where I head for quality I can count on. Now, this dress is a little more modern, a lot more sleek and rings in at a cool $450. Nice.

(Source: J. Crew Sararose Wedding Gown)

And it has a train! A lot of times when you budget shop for a dress, you might miss out on a train. Not with this lovely number. No sacrifice on style either, this baby is loaded with style. Love it!

This Dalia MacPhee dress captures the ruffles and close fitting dress trend perfectly. It’s so romantic, comes with a train, has a beautiful and feminine sweetheart neckline, and when I saw the price tag ($298!!!) my breath caught. All THAT for under $300? This can’t be really happening! Is this real life? With 44 almost 5 star reviews, I’m thinking it is!

(Source: Nordstrom, Dalia MacPhee)

I’m addicted to ruffles, and sweetheart necklines so when I saw this my breath caught a little. This dress would photograph so beautifully and the ruching would be incredibly slimming if you’re worried about that. A gorgeous dress, and no one will ever know it cost so little!

Another dress with a train (can you tell it was pretty much a pre-requisite?) It was! Travis likes to pick on me and tell me I am a Wedding Dress Nazi! Well, I guess to a certain extent I am. I photograph weddings and I love beautiful things and I am a woman…3 pre-requisites to being a Wedding Dress Nazi. Guess I fit the bill!  But really & truly, finding beautiful and unique dresses with a train was difficult, I am not even going to lie! I looked high and low and was so surprised. BUT, I really only checked a couple stores, so this really shows you what a little digging can do! If you have particularly resourceful family members, ask them for help. This is possible! You just might have to be a little creative. But you have me too, so shoot me a message any time and I will be glad to help! Anyway…back to dresses…keep it on track ladies! This dress is from Tadashi, it’s Lace & Chiffon, and it has such a gorgeous 30’s Vintage vibe to it. Make sure you check out the back too! Your guests will be mesmerized equally from both the front and back. So many women forget about the back of the dress, but that needs to be pretty and interesting too! Your photographer will be photographing you from behind, and so many people will be looking at your from behind during your entire ceremony.

(Source: Nordstrom, Tadashi Shoji Lace & Chiffon Gown)

Siren. yep. This one comes in on the higher end of our budget at  $548 and with only a 6 & 10 available you’ll have to act fast. This dress would also be great for a destination wedding.

This last dress is not traditional, but with so many bridal dress designers going the route of adding a touch of color in their dresses I wanted to include something that encapsulates on that trend. This is slightly more than a hint of color and would definitely be for the more non-traditional bride. At $198 though, and with a ton of colors to choose from, you really can’t go wrong. Again, Adrianna Papell shows how romantic and beautiful her dresses are with this gorgeous gown.

(Source: Nordstrom, Adrianna Papell Chiffon Gown)

112 5 star reviews tell me that this dress is a romantic hit with everyone. Take a peek !

So that’s it for this week, thanks so much for joining me. I sincerely appreciate it! Add me to your RSS feed, message me with questions, comments, suggestions, etc. I would absolutely love to hear from you. I’ve also been considering making this installment a twice a week thing instead of once a week. If this would be something you’re interested in, give me some feedback. If I don’t get any, I think I will just keep it at one a week for now until I see that people are getting some use out of this. I hope you liked it, I have been spending a lot of time looking around the web for blog fodder and discounted dresses, along with budget wedding ideas. It’s so amazing to see what you can find, and to realize that a beautiful wedding doesn’t need to be insanely expensive.  Thanks so much you guys for helping me see! I’ll be sharing again soon, until then take care and happy wedding planning!
